A huge present sat in the front yard of a house. It had navy blue wrapping paper, light blue ribbon, and a gigantic bow, and it filled the whole yard. People walking on the sidewalk or coming in and out of the house just ignored the huge gift. They saw it but didn’t seem to care whose it was or why it was there.
Then a large eagle swept down and started pulling on the ribbon. A boy walking down the street stopped to watch the eagle. Off the gift floated a tag, which said, “FOR EVERYONE.”
A girl looked out her window and saw the eagle, the present, and the falling tag. She ran outside to join her friend on the sidewalk, and they laughed and jumped in excitement as they watched the eagle.
The eagle pulled the ribbon until it came loose, and the huge present opened up before the children. Other people started noticing the gift and stopped to watch as well. The four sides of the present unfolded and revealed a huge castle. It was light blue with gold trim, and was big enough for the children to enter.
The boy and girl, along with some friends, rushed through the castle’s front door. Inside they saw many gifts—not toys or games, but beautifully coloured patches of light that they could touch and hold. Each light-gift had a word on it – love, joy, peace, and so many more. When the children picked up the gifts, the light of the gifts filled them and shone out from them beautifully, in all the various colours.
The children danced and laughed and ran from gift to gift, enthralled by the transformation they saw in each other as each began to glow in beautiful, multicoloured light.
Then they saw Jesus. All the gifts were coming from Him. He was filled with light that shone from within Him – countless different colours and shades of beautiful light, far more beautiful than any rainbow. Light shone from every part of Him – the light of salvation, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, compassion, forgiveness, restoration, and many more.
The children picked up their gifts and brought them to Jesus. They hugged Him and He filled them with His amazing multicoloured light. And He filled their arms with gifts of His Spirit to share with others.
The children joyfully left the castle, some through the front door, and some down long slides from the high windows to the ground.
Shining with all the colours of light, they offered Jesus’ gifts to all who gathered there—both children and grown-ups. Some refused the gifts of light and walked away. Some accepted them and just stood there, but others took the gifts eagerly and asked the children where to find more. The children pointed to the castle and told the people about Jesus.By Annette Ford
Those eager to receive more from Jesus hurried inside and found Him there. He filled them with His light as He gave them gifts of salvation, hope, and many more that they, too, shared with others.
Do you understand that Jesus’ gift of salvation and so many other beautiful gifts of light are available for everyone, right where they are? Do you see that even children can receive Jesus’ amazing gifts of His Spirit that they can share with others so that they, too, can be transformed and become light-bearers?
James 1:17 “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.” Ephesians 5:8-9 “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth).
