God gives us what we need even when we think we have impossibly little. The mom and her sons in 2 Kings 4:1-7 found this out, and they were amazed!
- 2 identical bags of microwave popcorn
- 5-10 identical sized paper or plastic cups.
- Microwave oven
First, open one bag of unpopped microwave popcorn and pour it into one of the cups. How much of the cup is filled with the unpopped popcorn kernels?
Next, guess how many cups will be filled after you pop the popcorn.
Now put the other bag of popcorn in the microwave and pop it according to the instructions. Fill up the paper or plastic cups with the popped popcorn. How many are full now?
This is kind of like the little bit of oil filling up a lot of jars, right?
Before you eat your popcorn, think about ways God has blessed you. Think about all the good things God has given you – the things you have to be thankful for.
For each piece of popcorn that you eat, thank God for one thing that he has given you. It can be something you need, or something that is just an added blessing.
If your mom or dad lets you, make a game of it by throwing the popcorn in the air and trying to catch it in your mouth, then telling God what you’re thankful for. (Or you could even try to throw it in your brother or sister’s mouth!) Be sure to clean up your mess when you’re done.
Remember in all of this that God gives us what we need.
